Hibiscus Flowers & Peppermint Leaf

Hibiscus-Mint is truly a hair-match, made in heaven. Hibiscus flower and leaf extract is widely used throughout the tropics by men and women to enhance and beautify their hair and support healthy hair growth. Hibiscus is naturally a little acidic and this helps reduce greasiness and excess oil build up on the scalp. Aside from smelling delicious, Peppermint oil is one of the best natural ingredients for stimulating hair growth and keeping the scalp happy and healthy. Applying peppermint oil topically, and in the correct strength, may have the potential to increase depth, size, and number of hair follicles over time.

Organic Coconut Oil

As well as being a natural DHT blocker, coconut oil is brimming with essential fatty acids that deliver a healthy dose of moisture, penetrating the hair shaft and helping to repair stressed hair strands. Coconut oil also has mild antipruritic, antiseptic and keratolytic (compounds that break down the outer layers of thick skin) properties. It is widely recommended for the treatment of scaly skin disorders of such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis and dandruff.

Organic Castor Seed Oil

There is plenty of anecdotal evidence that castor seed oil encourages hair growth, but we like to focus more on its potent moisturising and gloss-giving properties. Castor seed oil is a thick, almost sap-like, oil that penetrates and protects the hair strands, leaving them with a beautiful shine. It’s high in ricinoleic acid, which helps balance the pH of your scalp, and restore it from damage caused by harsh ingredients (like Sulphates, SLS).

Himalayan Pink Salt

A scalp scrub just wouldn’t be scrubby without some beautiful Himalayan Pink Salt! Himalayan pink salt is not the same as sea salt, which is nice but can be contaminated by ocean pollution. Instead it’s a rock salt mined from huge salt crystal protrusions in the Khewra Salt Mines of Pakistan. All true Hymalayan Pink Salt comes from these salt mines. They are one of Pakistans most esteemed resources and largest natural exports. Pink salt improves scalp health by exfoliating, loosening and dissolving product build up and dandruff as well as stimulate circulation, which is what sluggish hair follicles need. It also absorbs excess oil and moisture, which helps prevent dandruff in the future.

We recommend using the scalp scrub twice a week, pre-shampoo. Wet your hair and squeeze out excess water. Scoop up a dollop  (around 1 Tbsp) of scrub into your palm. Smoosh it in your palm to soften and make it easier to apply. Gently massage onto your scalp/roots with your fingertips for 2 minutes, using a circular motion. You may find it easier to flip your head over to get to the back if you have long/thick hair. Rinse with warm water and follow with shampoo. Can the scalp scrubs be used on colour-treated hair?
Yes, all of Awake Organics haircare can be used on colour-treated hair. When in use, the haircare products have an ideal pH range for colour-treated hair and contain no sulphates, so usage won’t result in excess colour-stripping. Washing your hair with anything, even water, will cause some colour to fade but it’s the products that are more alkaline (pH 7+) that cause excess colour stripping. Don’t forget: if you have recently coloured your hair, you should wait a few days to let your colour “bake-in” before your first wash (advice that goes for shampooing in general).

Can it be used on hair with keratin straightening or smoothing treatments?
It’s possible that the Himalayan Pink Salt in the formula may undo the effects from these type of treatments.

Can I use it on curly hair?
The Scalp Clarifier is wax-free and Curly Girl Method-friendly.

Will a scalp scrub help with dandruff and itching?
Yes, absolutely! The scrub will help to rebalance your scalp, exfoliate and cleanse, and reduce that annoying itch.

How does using a scalp scrub help with hair growth?
The scalp scrubs support healthy hair growth with their hair-boosting ingredients, by helping you maintain and healthy scalp (which is how you grow healthy hair), and through the stimulating effect of regular massage and exfoliation.

My hair is grey/blonde, will this stain my hair?
No. The beautiful colour is 100% natural and is the result of many Hibiscus flowers used in the formulation. This won’t deposit any colour on your hair or towels, or stain your bath/shower.

Do I need to use conditioner?
If you are using the Scalp Clarifier, you will shampoo and condition as normal.
