The Awake Organics Shea Butter Lip Mask is different to a traditional lip balm. Lip balms can be great as long as they are natural and free from synthetic waxes, perfumes and flavours. But they never fully hydrate dry lips and, depending on the butter:oil ratio, sometimes even dry the lips even more. This is because standard lip balms contain a large percentage of wax in order to bind the oils and butters together in a stable, firm formulation. Although wax is a good barrier against the elements, it has no moisture content. That’s why lip balm needs so many applications throughout the day.

Lip Love is rich with a creamy texture. It glides on and has a slow-medium absorption rate, so it lasts on the lips until it’s completely soaked in.
Lip Love Lip Mask works differently because instead of wax, the formula is loaded with Ceramides, special fat molecules that are naturally present in your skin cells.
If you have dry or sensitive lips, our lip mask will provide soothing, intensive moisture. It helps bolster your skin barrier function to help your lips retain moisture, it reduces inflammation and helps fend off unwanted bacteria and yeast (helpful for red, cracked corners, etc.). The smooth texture makes it easy to apply as often as needed.
Lip Love is also suitable for people who may be prone to eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis, and may be used on children 3 yrs+ (adult supervision required).

Ceramides
Ceramides are a special type of lipids (fat molecules) that are naturally present in your skin cells. In healthy, youthful skin, Ceramides make up 30% – 40% of the outer skin layer (epidermis). Ceramides are important for retaining your skin’s moisture and barrier function. When your skin’s barrier function is disrupted, your skin will feel dry, inflamed, and be at risk for inflammatory skin conditions like permanently chapped lips, eczema and more. The good news is that you can boost your skin’s outer layer by supplementing your skincare with oils naturally high in Ceramides. Awake uses organic, un-refined, cold-pressed Sunflower seed oil (68% Ceramide content) and gluten-free Wheatgerm oil (55% Ceramide content) in Lip Love for this exact reason.

Organic Frankincense Resin Oil
We formulate with the purest frankincense on the planet: certified organic and wild-harvested in a sustainable way. Used for centuries for both its spiritual and medicinal properties, Frankincense is used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effects. Studies have shown that Frankincense, specifically Boswellia Carterii (which is what we use), is active against bacterial infections caused by E. coli and some strains of Staphylococcus aureus, as well as having significant activity against yeast overgrowth (1, 2). Frankincense is one of the secret weapons in our lip mask because of its ability to fend off unwanted bacteria and yeast, while reducing inflammation and soothing chapped lips.
Stearic Acid
Stearic acid is a saturated, long-chain fatty acid that is found naturally in various animal and plant fats. Awake uses Stearic Acid naturally derived from coconuts, making it a wonderful vegan addition to the formula. Stearic Acid is an emollient that nourishes chapped lips and protects them from moisture-loss, helping shore up your lip’s protective barrier even more.
Organic Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has mild antipruritic, antiseptic and keratolytic properties. It is widely recommended for the treatment of skin disorders such as chapped lips, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis and dandruff.

How to Use
Apply liberally, directly to dry lips as needed. We recommend applying a thick layer at night, before bedtime and in the morning.
(GENERAL ADVICE) Do not use on broken skin. If irritation occurs, please discontinue use. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. This product can be used on children 3 yrs+ (adult supervision required). For external use only. Keep away from sunlight and store in a cool location.
If your pot is left in a hot spot and melts, pop it in the fridge for 20 minutes.
